Sonic Solutions featured in SF Gate: Sears teams with Sonic Solutions for digital video service

Novato’s Sonic Solutions Inc., which is rapidly shifting its business to take advantage of a new wave of consumer electronics devices that can play digital movies and video delivered directly from the Internet, on Tuesday announced another key retail partner.

Sears plans to launch its own online movie and video service later this year using Sonic Solution’s RoxioNow platform.

Sonic Solutions featured in Reuters: Sonic and Sears strike deal on online TV and movies

The California-based Sonic has similar deals in place with Blockbuster Inc and Best BUY Co Inc.

Under Sonic’s latest multiyear deal, the operator of Sears and Kmart stores has licensed Sonic’s RoxioNow platform to sell digital entertainment under the Sears and Kmart brand names.

Sears is expected to launch the portal later this year, which will allow consumers to access Hollywood content on TVs, Blu-ray players and mobile phones.

Sonic Solutions featured in Home Media Magazine: Sears Eyes Movie Downloads

Sears Holdings, parent company of Sears and Kmart, and Sonic Solutions June 22 said they have entered into an agreement to facilitate distribution of movies from the Internet via myriad devices, including televisions, Blu-ray Disc players and mobile phones.

Sears said it will incorporate and promote nationwide Sonic’s RoxioNow download technology in a variety of other digital services later this year. The platform enables retailers and consumer electronics companies to engage in the rapidly evolving entertainment supply chain through diversified product offerings, and better inform customers about digital distribution.

Sonic Solutions featured in Cnet: Sears, Kmart to offer streaming movie service

Here’s how you know streaming video has gone mainstream: when mass market retailers are getting in on the game.

 Scheduled for a holiday release is a new digital video service that will be available on TVs and Blu-ray players sold at Sears and Kmart. It’s called Alphaline Entertainment, and will be available on devices from Sharp, LG, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and RCA by the end of the year. Customers will be walked through the set-up inside the store by customer service representatives so that they can just take it home and begin watching movie content at once.
