Seagate featured in Computer Shopper: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-portable Drive (500GB)

2010 is a tricky time to buy a speed-sensitive computing peripheral. Speedy next-generation transfer technologies like USB 3.0 and eSATA are popping up in new laptops and desktops, offering much faster transfer rates. But perennial port favorites like USB 2.0 and FireWire are still much more common, and they aren’t about to vanish from home or office computers anytime soon. So, if you happen to have a new PC with, say, a pair of speedy USB 3.0 ports, do you opt for a USB 3.0 external drive that works great at home, but is limited to USB 2.0 speeds on your office machine? And what about when new technologies emerge that may be even faster, like Intel’s Light Peak optical cable technology?

Seagate featured in KiddieCorner Deals: Father’s Day Gift: Seagate FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive!

A while back our computer decided it didn’t want to turn on anymore. We brought it to computer repair and was told our hard drive had failed. I immediately wanted to get sick as I had so many photos of my children and family in folders upon folders on the drive. Ever since that day happened we knew an external hard drive was a must.

Seagate featured in Slash Gear: Seagate GoFlex TV HD Review

Back when we reviewed the Seagate GoFlex HDD we concluded that, while the concept of an external drive with interchangeable cables was reasonable, we thought it would make more sense when used with the company’s multimedia docking stations. Happily that’s just what we have on the SlashGear test bench today, the Seagate GoFlex TV HD, a standalone media player that boasts compatibility not only with the company’s own GoFlex drives but with any USB storage.

Seagate featured in The Post-it Place: GoFlex

Seagate is constantly coming up with new and innovative storage solutions for the computer, but I think they have outdone themselves with the GoFlex! Movies? Music? Pictures? PC? Mac? None of it matters with the GoFlex, it can handle whatever you throw at it.

Seagate featured in Hardware Geeks: Seagate GoFlex Net

As you probably already know, Seagate has a new eco-system called GoFlex. The GoFlex eco-system easily allows you to swap the connection type of your external hard drive between USB 2.0, 3.0, Firewire and eSata.

After checking out their GoFlex External HDDs last month I got my hands on the new Seagate GoFlex Net which will allow you to convert your portable GoFlex drives into a NAS, and get access to the data on those drives anywhere in the world via the PogoPlug service.

Seagate featured in geek.com: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drive

Seagate’s GoFlex is a modular external storage system. You start off with a base piece, like a 2.5-inch external hard drive and then you snap on the connection you want–USB 2.0, USB 3.0, eSATA, and so on. It’s a simple solution to the problem of data connectivity. The design makes connections upgradeable and can extend the life and usability of an external hard drive without changing the enclosure it’s in.

Seagate featured in USA Today: Digital media players move content from PC to living room

Hard-drive companies are on a new mission to do more than just back up your data. Now they want to bring you and your digital content into the living room.

For that, you can thank the growing collection of digital media — photos, videos and music — that largely has replaced CDs, DVDs and photo prints.

Seagate featured in FamilyCircle: Easy Ways to Back Up Data

If there is one universal truth about using computers, it’s that sooner or later something bad will happen to your data. Hard drives die without warning. Laptops get lost or stolen. File-munching viruses worm their way into your system. And then there’s good old human error, as in, sometimes you just do something stupid—like accidentally delete a file (or, gasp, an entire drive) with a single absentminded mouse click.
